Market
access for wood products is largely influenced by building codes
and standards in such areas as lumber and panel grading, volatile
organic compounds emissions, preservation treatments, fire resistance,
structural performance, moisture resistance, durability, etc.
Based on their expertise gained through research and innovation,
our scientists contribute on a continual basis to the activities
of codes and standards committees at the national (e.g., National
Lumber Grades Authority (NLGA), Canadian Standards Association (CSA),
Canadian General Standards Board) and international (e.g., International
Organization for Standardization (ISO), American Society for Testing
and Materials (ASTM), National Fire Prevention Agency (NFPA)) levels
by:
- providing scientific data to document the performance of wood
products and systems;
- ensuring that wood products and systems are treated equitably
in Canada and around the globe, more particularly in major markets
such as the US, Japan, China and Europe.
Through our Technical
Services, FPInnovations experts can advise you on standard requirements
applicable to your product, and on the most efficient way to meet
such requirements in view of your particular production parameters
and financial objectives. They can also advise manufacturers seeking
to market innovative wood products for which no standard has yet
been developed.
