The lumber industry needs technology to increase its competitiveness
in the face of a limited wood supply, restriction to trade and growing
pressure from foreign producers and non-wood building materials.
FPInnovations' Lumber Manufacturing research is focused on increasing
value recovery from the resource, meeting market expectations and
maintaining cost competitiveness for our members. The program has
three components:
For our members, the 2008-2009 Lumber Manufacturing Program Summary and a description of its
current
research projects are available. A list of relevant publications
is offered within our sections Newsletter
(Publications Update) and Technotes.
Throughout the year, our Lumber Manufacturing specialists organise
and participate in various technology transfer activities, with
a clear focus towards our members. For specific needs, contract
services are also offered by FPInnovations in the fields of sawmilling,
wood drying and wood protection, with strict confidentiality guidelines.
